Cambridge Isotope Laboratories (CIL) is a company which manufacturer and sells a variety of isotopically labeled chemicals and analytical standards. Its isotope separation facility is located in Xenia, Ohio and its production laboratories are located in Andover, Massachusetts. The company employs approximately 130 people and only develops compounds with stable (non-radioactive) isotopes.[1]
CIL primarily sells chemical compounds that contain very high percentages of deuterium, carbon-13, nitrogen-15, and oxygen-18. They also sells compounds that are over 99.9% in carbon-12 so as to exclude carbon-13. Certain isotopes of some main group and transition metals are also sold, usually as either oxides or as the pure metal.[2]
For NMR spectroscopy, CIL sells a wide array of deuterated solvents (molecules where all hydrogens have been replaced by deuteriums) and oxygen-18 water. They also market several isotopically labeled gases such as acetylene, carbon monoxide, methane, and others.[3]
For biological studies, the company sells many labelled amino acids and growth media. Molecules important to biochemistry, such as d-glucose and sodium pyruvate, are also available in labelled form.[4]
CIL also sells a large array of analytical standards in both labelled and unlabelled form. Some are general pollutants that can originate from many different sources: dioxins, furans, pesticides, PCBs, and PAHs. Other analytical standards are made for chemicals found particular products: pharmaceuticals, tobacco products, and flame retardants. Some metabolites of phthalates, tobacco, pesticides, and chemical weapons are also available.[5]
